5 Steps to Living a Good Life (for Adults)

Compiled from Stoic principles by Tim Patterson

I will live in the present moment. The past has gone, and I bear responsibility for my previous actions and those in the future. I will acknowledge the good I have in my life and the gap there would be if this were taken.

I will strive to live a good life and prioritise the Stoic values of seeking wisdom and justice while avoiding excess in my appetites or passions. I will have the courage to implement these values despite the risk of possible negative consequences to myself.

I will focus my energy on improving areas where I have the power to change, especially my own judgments, speech, and actions. In particular I will listen and empathise with others' points of view and aim to banish anger and hatred. I will show compassion to myself and others, especially those in need.

I accept my responsibility to support myself and my family and will look for opportunities to contribute to my local community. I will identify any actions that I can personally take to protect our planet and the diversity of life on it.

I  will accept the impermanence of all things, including myself, and I will not waste my unique opportunity to make the world a better place.

5 Steps to Rocking Your Life (for young adults and teens)

Inspired by Cool Wisdom by Tim Patterson

1. Be in the Now: Forget about the past drama, focus on today! Take responsibility for your actions, and appreciate the awesome things in your life. Imagine how different things would be without them.

2. Live the Good Life: Strive for awesomeness! Be wise, fight for what's right, and chill out on the unnecessary drama. Have the guts to stand up for what you believe in, even if it means dealing with a little drama.

3. Upgrade Yourself: Work on the stuff you can actually change. Fix your attitude, watch your words, and be the hero of your story. Tune in to others' vibes, be kind, and kick anger and hate to the curb. Show some love to yourself and others, especially those who could use a friend.

4. Own Your World: Take charge of your life and look out for your crew. Pitch in where you can, and make your community awesome. Find little ways to save the planet and protect all the cool creatures on it.

5. Embrace Change: Everything's temporary, even you! Don't waste your chance to make a mark. Make the world better, and make your teenage years unforgettable!
